Solaia Marchesi Antinori 2001
From the historic Marchesi Antinori winery, an icon of the Tuscan winemaking scene and a pioneer of Super Tuscans, this 2001 Solaia represents the pinnacle of elegance, complexity, and maturity. The 2001 vintage was an exceptional one in Tuscany, with ideal weather conditions that allowed the grapes to ripen perfectly, resulting in a wine that, after more than twenty years, presents a rare harmony and depth, revealing all its grandeur.
Produced from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Franc grapes, with an alcohol content of 13.5%, the wine has been aged extensively in French oak barriques. Today, on the nose, it presents a complex and layered bouquet of black cherry in brandy, dried plum, notes of leather, tobacco, and tertiary aromas of underbrush and sweet spices. On the palate, it is powerful yet refined and elegant, with smooth tannins and a still lively freshness. The finish is extraordinarily long and deep, leaving an impression of great harmony. It pairs magnificently with rich red meat dishes, game, and mature cheeses.
